At Fuori Salone Milan Design Week, Vicenza stone gives shape to creativity
What happens when made in Italy opens up to globalization, when an artisan workshop opens its doors to a group of international designers?
What happens is that, after the initial moments of surprise at the creative “invasion,” the professionals begin to engage with the artisans on projects, mutual experiences, and processing techniques.
This is exactly what happens in Monteviale (VI), where Celsan Renato srl has welcomed a group of designers led by Martino Gamper since December. Here, after touring the Vicenza area among warehouses and artisan districts, they have found the “know-how” resulting from long experience in working Vicenza stone and …”Artisan Value“: this is the name of the project promoted by Confartigianato and CNA Vicenza in collaboration with Venice International University and Fuori Biennale, which Celsan Renato srl has joined along with many other Vicenza-based enterprises.
After the first meeting in December, in recent months the workshop has continued to be a forge of ideas, which are gradually being refined through the collaboration between the stonecutters and the AUT collective (Luca Coppola, Federico Bovara, Riccardo Berrone and Chiara Onida), Will Shannon and Harry Thaler.
Soon their drawings and initial sketches will become prototypes, exhibited during the From-To event organized as part of Fuori Salone Milan Design Week 2014 from April 8 to 9 (Palazzo Visconti Via Lanzone, 2 – Milan).
A prestigious showcase but also a starting point for continuing to renew expertise, combining the freshness of ideas with knowledge of materials, passion, and attention to detail that have characterized the Celsan Renato srl workshop in working Vicenza stone since 1959.
