Garden Statues: From Venetian Villas to Contemporary Landscapes

Mythological and allegorical figures, musicians and animals, commedia dell’arte masks and Olympian deities come alive in the gardens of Venetian villas, guardians of a civilization that is not confined within four walls but entrusted to a vast repertoire of sculptures.

Garden statuary, an extraordinary legacy from past centuries, flourished thanks to the tradition of master craftsmen who did not have to go far to source their materials, finding in the limestone quarries of the Berici Hills what they needed to shape their works. Within the pages of the recently published book ” Sculpture in the Gardens of Venetian Villas. The Vicenza Territory ” (Marsilio ed.), it is possible to rediscover this unique heritage, not merely ornamental, but rather a testament to Venetian beauty and civilization.

At the Celsan Renato srl artisan workshop, we consider ourselves heirs to that same tradition, serving as curious interpreters of Vicenza stone. In our workshop in Monteviale (Vicenza), we hand-carve statues and sculptures of any size to furnish and embellish parks, villas, and gardens.

Inspired by the creation of timeless atmospheres, we reproduce classical statues and create benches, tables, fountains, wells, vases, planters, in Renaissance, Baroque, or Neoclassical style. We also collaborate with architects, garden designers, and landscape architects to realize bespoke projects and adapt garden sculpture to contemporary settings. In this way, we follow the path traced in past centuries by the masters of garden statuary, finding even today in Vicenza stone the connection between architecture and the surrounding landscape.
