Balustrades. How we craft them using Vicenza Stone.

Among the architectural elements with the greatest aesthetic impact in the construction of a building, balustrades play a fundamental role. Our workshop has been crafting balustrades for stone balconies for decades, particularly in Vicenza Stone. Here, in a photo story, are some phases of the production process.

The balustrade—an element we are now accustomed to seeing on terraces, balconies, or belvederes of historic noble residences—was already used in the 15th century in the construction of the portico of St. Peter’s Basilica; in subsequent centuries, its decorative character became increasingly pronounced. Essentially, balustrades consist of a series of column-shaped elements (the balusters) that rest on a base and are joined together at the top by a horizontal element called the coping. Base, balusters, and coping are therefore the constituent elements of the balustrade, and each of these can have different characteristics depending on the decorative style of reference.

In this post, we want to show you some moments in the creation of a balustrade, particularly the semi-automatic turning of stone balusters for a balcony.

The semi-automatic processing of balusters ensures maximum precision and quality control of each individual piece produced.

Quality and precision that apply to all elements of the balustrade, from the base to the coping.

The transport phase of balustrades to be installed is extremely delicate, which is why careful packaging work is necessary to ensure their safety and prevent any type of impact.
